that’s a cool theory, but it’s highly unlikely. if that was the case, then why didn’t he reach out to the draco’s or con when Noctus captured him? why is con so convinced he’s dead? someone with that little self preservation or sanity is just so far from the aristide we know. and I always thought that con was with him when ambrose died, that’s how he got the ring and ambrose made him promise to look after the dracos’s

I’m on my 4th or 5th re=read now, and it just occurred to me: I really want Considine and Aristide to hang out. To have been friends or enemies or something back in the day and for Con to have a peer group (of 1). 🙂 Although that also reminds me I don’t really recall how the timelines mesh. Con is from BCE, but where does the Elven war fall in there? And the reveal to the rest of humanity? I can’t recall if I’ve seen a timeline somewhere.

Yes! This was a huge desire for me as I read the first book too. I want them to meet sooo much! Aristide can introduce him to podcasts and they can compare notes and complain about how wrong the history books are!

The only events related to any sort of timeline that I can find are that Shadows were wiped out before the invention of the printing press, and before the Elven war. That is very vague.

Just finished the book today. I was trying really hard to hold out and not read it until the second book came out but I did not make it. It was great loved all the cameos I really warmed up to Jade. I love all the heroines in these series but my fav is Pip. Jade is right up there tho, I mean honestly there isn’t much difference I love them all.
Can’t wait for the second book! I think Gislia will be playing a bigger role soon, not sure if it will be for good or bad 😂

I’m rereading the King’s Queen, and realized that the vampire who is old enough to remember shadows must be Considine. He is connected to Killian, and is terrifying.

I loved this book so much! As someone who has social anxiety I related so much to Jade’s struggles to talk to her classmates and how she can only communicate when it involves her job as I am kinda the same way. I loved all the cameos but I especially liked getting to meet Emi because she has been mentioned in other books so I have always been curious about her. Also loved getting to see a dragon shifter and I am excited to see where the rest of the series goes

What a fantastic book, Kitty! I‘m at about 80%, and I love it so far!! My favorite things so far: Tetiana shouting into her radio, that cracked me up every time xD, Considine generally being bored, even after setting fire to a house, but finding Jade fascinating, Jade just being so motivated and eager to connect with others even though it’s hard for her, that was really heartwarming! Truly enjoying Jade’s book <3 your stories are always such a boost of positivity, and I‘m super thankful you keep doing what you’re doing!! Can’t wait for the second book, sending lots of love!

I need a second read to see if I missed any, but I think my favorite might be French Fry. It’s fun to recognize so many places too. Queen’s Court Cafe and Flying Curry and they’re just building the clock tower!! Love it!
Anyone want to guess which Drake is going to finally locate Considine? I’m leaning Rupert with help from at least one Medais wizard.

I loved this book! Considine is a bit unhinged, and I am loving their dynamic lol.
I have to ask though….did neither of them recognize the other’s voices earlier on? I feel like once you become familiar with someone, you recognize voices. Does his glamour thing distort his voice?? And how did he not pick up on Jade’s voice?
I’m super pumped to read the second and third.
P.S. I need another book dedicated to the lore of all supernatural types for me to read. I have SO MANY questions. Like, what kind of supernatural are Hazel and Killian going to produce?? A vamp slayer? A slayer with special sets of magic since he/she will have Medias magic?

Jade might not associate Considine’s voice with Ruin’s (even though they are the same person) because of the different settings she meets him in and the fact that she considers Considine (Connor) as a friend and Ruin as a foe. I believe his glamour-robe-hood-thing might have something to do with it but I’m not entirely sure…
Now for Considine not recognizing Jade’s voice I can understand because Jade wears her slayer mask which probably muffles/distorts her voice. Perhaps her voice sounds deeper with the mask? Considine also sees her when she is anxious or comfortable, not when she is in full slayer mode.

Jade figures out Ruin’s identity and Considine figures out Jade’s!!! If I were Jade, I would probably hide in my closet forever when she learned Considine was in town. She is much braver than I am.

I am waiting for someone in the book to suggest that if Considine is that bored and loves fighting Jade, that he should join the task force. Then he can fight her more with sparring and there will be all kinds of “new” adventures to be found with them.
I can just see Jade and Considine talking and him calling her pet names at a table in the briefing room full of the other teammates with their jaws on the floor as they watch Jade interacting with a vampire without a problem!
I wonder if they will have to deal with the trouble that House Tellier is going to cause in this series, or if this is just leading up to another trilogy with them.
The task force all sound like they are single (except the captain) so there is plenty of potential of more books/romance with them. And I want to be there when Chloe’s brother joins them and his reaction to the task force rooms and procedures!

I keep thinking about how Killian is going to handle it if/when Considine decides to stay in Magiford permanently. He was upset enough about the visit. It’s going to be so fun (for us, not Killian).

I think that’s going to happen at some point. This is happening around the same time as Pip’s story, and at the end of Fated there is a scene with Jade and a male vampire who are both part of the task force. The big question for me is when will Considine joins the task force, not it.
House Tellier and their allies are probably going to have at least one plan/scheme dealt with in this series. Their shenanigans are being set up too much for them not be addressed at all.
I would love to see how Chloe’s brother interacts with the task force!

So I’m about 60% of the way through and I was very good- just scrolled past the comments! – but had to share how much I loved this quote: ““Romantic relationships are important.” I crouched down to look at the bottom shelf of self-help books. “But having good relationships—with friends, family, whatever makes up your support network—is more important.””

I kept wondering if Jade’s stove was broken – she seems to detailed oriented to mess up a thing like temperature so drastically. The description of the final products was more than a few degrees off or a missed reduction in temp (as someone who has done those a few times can attest). I would half expect an electrician to notice this, but given she’s internalized “I’m a bad cook” it may be clouding her analysis.
Her inner dialogue was so on point for social anxiety. I loved reading those pieces and I know I’ve gotten the same advice. If only she could channel her ease with Connor into other conversations.

Yeah, I feel like Jade’s oven temperature is not reading correctly. I do hope to see her try shortbread again and hope we see enough of a difference with that temp change, though I’m not optimistic.

Okay other spoilees, can someone remind me if we’ve met Orrin before? I feel like we have, but I have a feeling there’s another book I like that has an evil henchman by that name in it. I’m really bad at recalling names (even of main characters! Thank goodness Considine is not named Constantine because every time I read it I think Consta… no, Considine).

I don’t know if we’ve heard his name, but I think I remember there being a blond male fae that is selling sketchy artifacts in Gates of Myth and Power, as well as being the one who set off the artifact in front of the dog groomers. I don’t think they ever found him.

He was captured at the end of “The King’s Queen” (which takes place after this). Unless they release Orrin, that fae is probably a different one.

I really enjoyed all Considine’s food nicknames for Jade. They were so funny! I also really loved their relationship where they’re super comfortable with each other but fight with each other when they don’t know who the other is. Considine’s personality is also really great (it’s something like Killian’s and Killian’s temperament was really fun!). I love it when the characters have an unemotional-kind of personality.
All of Jade’s failed attempts at cooking were also extremely funny (she burned veggie!)
This was a great book! I loved it. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!

I said it in my review, but I LOVE that we saw Josh being Josh-like (Joshesque?). He’s one of my favourite characters (although multiple Chloe spottings made me giggle). I wonder if Jade also figured out that Connor = Considine? The casual touching of him and leaving blood makes me wonder – she’s pretty clever thanks to her slayer training. It’d be fun if she knew more than he did – he’s all up on himself “ooo, I know she’s the slayer and she doesn’t know I’m Ruin, how entertaining,” meanwhile she knows (a) he’s Ruin and (b) he’s Considine and she has a good grasp on his vampiric abilities. I’m on my second read thru of probably many while I wait impatiently for book two.
Amazon says this is a two book series – is this not going to be 3 like the others?

Also, I have to ask if Medium-Sized Robert is an homage to Medium Dave from the Hogfather, because as names go, it’s pretty awesome. This book has really turned my mood around this week (I broke my leg and so all my Xmas plans are scrambled and also it aches – I didn’t think about it at ALL the entire time I read, and thanks to the painkillers the re-read is feeling pretty fresh!).

I love all of Jades internal social anxiety dialogues. That is my life! Overthinking all conversations before and after having them. Love having a character I can relate to so deeply.

This was so fun to read! I’m so glad we are also learning more about dragon shifters. We are learning a ton about vampire slayers, but I think Kitty’s secondary purpose for this series is to help us understand dragon shifters, probably in preparation for an up-coming series. Hmmmm? We’ve never met Tutu but we have now met her sister. This could get really interesting in the up coming books!

I really liked that they found out different aspects of each others secrets at the end. I’m really looking forward to seeing how their interactions change in the next book. They are already helping each other re-examine their personal/internal narratives, and it will be interesting to see where that goes next.
My big prediction is that Ambrose asked Considine to watch over his progeny to keep Considine engaged in the world. Ambrose knew Considine had no emotional connections other than himself, so his task was as much or more in effort to keep Considine from becoming one of the sleeping elders as it was helping his “kids”.

I love Constantine! He’s so fun, and he definitely already cares a lot for Jade. I’m just excited for more characters to meet, and for Killian to learn what Constantine is doing.

Greetings, Champions! The Lies of Vampires and Slayers is officially released! As usual, I've will be writing short story as my "thank you" for the launch of this new book and for it reaching 100 reviews--that's 100 honest reviews pooling from Goodreads and all the Amazon stores! Reviews and ratings are a big deal for authors. Honest reviews can help readers decide if a book is their thing or not, and I'm so thankful that you're willing to spend your time leaving a review--which is why I'm happy to write the shorts!
