There’s nothing like the classic wind in your hair and the feeling of freedom as you cruise down the road. Your Yorkshire Terrier feels it, too! And they love it. If your Yorkie’s hair happens to be long, you might avoid riding with the windows down. This leads to many tangles that you’ll later have to brush out. But if they have their summer cut or maintain a short hair-do, then you’re set. Yorkies love to get out and about and observe the world around them. They are curious and excited about exploring from the comforts of your car or bike.

Choose a new road to travel down. Yorkies are very smart, so they’ll remember certain places on the road. While this is fun, it can also be great to give them something new to explore. You may choose to safely secure them on your bike with a sidecar. But you can also allow them to ride in the car. Having someone else ride with you is great. They can either drive for you or help manage your fur baby.

Don’t forget to make a few stops if your afternoon drive gets long. Your pup may need to potty or even drink some water. You may also need this, depending on how long the drive lasts. The author and her Yorkie ride their golf cart around their neighborhood. They stop to visit neighbors nearly every day.

If your pooch has a doggie friend, you might invite this pooch and their owner along for the afternoon getaway. It can be fun for your fur child to have a buddy, and it can be great for you to have another buddy by your side as well. Who knows? This may become a regular outing.

We should say that this is free if you already have all of your supplies purchased. But your little poochie-pie deserves a relaxing spa day from time to time, and you can do this right in your own home. Instead of racing to get to the finish line with bathtime and brushing, try slowing things down and really showering your Yorkshire Terrier with some attention. They love the sweet flattery, eye contact, and your tender touch. So, turn your tub or sink into an oasis of their canine dreams. If you can grab another person in your family to help you, that’ll be awesome. This will make transitions from bath to a towel, from towel to dryer, from a dryer to brushing and so on, fairly seamless.

Yorkies do require regular maintenance. That hair can get pretty long rather quickly, depending on the way you keep it styled. Although you may not groom your pup at home, you may certainly give them a warm bath. As you lather them up, consider massaging them to help them relax. Talk sweetly to them to make them calmer.

After bathtime, wrap them up in a warm towel. Simply toss the towel in the dryer a few minutes before the bath is complete. This is where the extra set of hands is nice to have. Brush your Yorkie, use a doggie dryer for that desired silky hair, and reward your baby with treats for behaving throughout the process.

More than likely, they’ll be pretty relaxed after the warm bath and drying. And extra brushing calms them down even more. Snuggle up with your Yorkie and listen to some soft, soothing music. Yorkies are our little watchdogs, and they jump at nearly everything, so music will help muffle outside sounds.

Though some people often consider them as simply the lazy, serious, and snobbish lapdogs of Victorian England’s finest ladies, they’re actually pretty spunky and enjoy going back to those roots of theirs that involved chasing small, fast objects through nooks and crannies. Main Squeeze is a game that can involve the entire family or just you and your pooch. It requires some setup, but the rewards for your little guy or gal are just what they desire. It’s time to have some Yorkie fun! Yipee!

You’ll need a good bit of supplies for this activity. The more pillows and blankets you can gather, the better. And if you can find a wide open space to play in, your Yorkie will thank you in plenty of puppy kisses and excited, adorable yelps. You might also use sleeping bags, bean chairs, or sofa cushions.

You are essentially building a sort of course for your dog. The author usually sets up three “avenues” down which her Yorkie’s toys may roll. Create your avenues using pillows and blankets. There’s a main central aisle, which is the longest (for optimal running) and then right, center, and left break-off aisles for the toy and your pup to travel. You need to aim the ball or rolling toy at different avenues, of course.

Sure, your Yorkster is retrieving their toy, but they’re also calculating which avenue to run down. They’re maybe leaping over pillows, going under them, or tunneling through a sleeping bag. They’re loving all the tight-knit spaces, curves, and little nooks you’ve created for them. Their brilliant minds are activated, and they’re also spending some of that notorious Yorkshire energy.
