The relationship I have with the Holy Spirit brought me to the understanding that whatever God gives man in life comes along with test and trials. Hence, money is one of the gifts from God that serves as a means of survival and as well as a lesson in life. 1Samuel 2:7 states that the Lord makes poor and makes rich, he brings low and he exalts. This means God gives money even though it cannot buy life, health and happiness fully, it can help you achieve certain things that you desire to live well on earth. I must admit that I love it when I get inspiration and direction from the Holy Spirit on what to do apart from my permanent job to make more money. Although I do get the money, it does come with a lot of problems such as envy and backbiting from family, friends and sometimes from people who you don’t even know you but have heard of you. Some cannot stand the fact that you have been blessed with money than them and therefore they tend either to wish you evil or good. I believe that money is indeed the root of all evil (1Timothy 6:10). I love Proverbs 10:22 that states that “the blessing of the Lord makes rich and He adds no sorrow with it”. Although there is no sorrow, the trials in our life increase with the wealth that we receive from the Lord. Indeed, money has been the cause of most of the happiness and sadness in people’s life. When you have money in the world today, you have power in the society, you are highly respected and even positions that you know that are not yours are even given to you. I can testify that when you are rich in the society, families will regard you more and respect your views even when it does not make sense. Money has led to creed, lies, killing, disrespect and jealousy.

God has given us the strength and ideas to work hard and make money which is a fact that man must acknowledge. Deuteronomy 8:18: “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day”. Money is one of the gifts of God for man to enjoy when we learn to toil for it. Ecclesiastes 5:18-20- “Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God. There are also exceptional cases that the devil uses money to lure the soul of man but only few are able to resist. Jesus Christ refused the devil’s offer when he promised him the whole earth, Matthew 4:8-9 – “Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me. Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only”. On the other hand, Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ for money which he was not able to spend and ended up hanging himself to death, Matthew 26:13-14 – “Then one of the twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver”.

I can boldly say that idle people will also be lured by the devil because of their greed for money but God will keep happiness in the heart of those who work hard in any job or business they find themselves. Proverbs 14:23 – “In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty”. This was also supported by 2 Thessalonians 3:10 – “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat”. With this statement, it is clear that money will not just come when you don’t work for it. Men must appreciate the essence of working hard in any profession that they find themselves.

Most Christians today are suffering because of money and even if they get it, they are not able to maintain it because they lack the secret behind increasing their finances. Thanks to the Holy Spirit who has given the underlying principles to why the Almighty God gives money and how to increase it: (Read Part 2 of this article to get more information)
