The quote “Some people are so poor, all they have is money” has been attributed to Patrick Meagher (a Canadian journalist and author), Bob Marley (the famous reggae singer) and others.
I've been rich and I've been poor. And, believe me, rich is better. These words have been ascribed to entertainer Fanny Brice, singer Sophie Tucker, comedian Joe E. Lewis, writer Beatrice Kaufman, and others.
It probably doesn't need explaining, however, this quote relies on poor being viewed holistically and not simply in the context of money. It's an observation of people who have nothing but money, those that only care and think about their bank balance.
The well-worn assertion that the rich get richer while the poor get poorer echoes Karl Marx's theory of immiseration which said that capitalists could only become richer by lowering wages, thereby reducing the living standards of workers until they had no choice but to revolt.
Wealth is the smallest thing on earth, the least gift that God has bestowed on mankind. Rich people should consider that they are only trustees for what they posses, and should show their wealth to be more in doing good than merely in having it. You can never be too rich or too thin.
